A couple of days ago a declared candidate for forthcoming mayoral elections in Moscow was sentenced to prison for five years after conviction on spurious charges where he was effectively disallowed to bring a defence case. The fact that he has been released on bail does not detract from opinion much much wiser than mine that President Putin was the eminence grise steering the prosecution. Now it`s unheard of for this blogger to mention said person never mind in the same post as Maria Miller Culture Secretary but today`s the day. This lady wants the perhaps intemperate comments of BBC commentator John Inverdale to be investigated. He had told listeners to BBC, “I just wonder if her dad did say to her when she was 12, 13, 14, maybe:” Listen, you are never going to be, you know, a looker”.”
Is it not just another example of how much our politicians are bringing about a state of being that perhaps only Franz Kafka or George Orwell could have imagined. Ms Miller should not use her political position to further any questions into the remarks of a BBC employee. It is for the BBC alone to do that. But perhaps at the beginning of the parliamentary recess the lady is raising her profile for possible political advancement the Culture Secretary far from being a stupid woman with a need to calm down.
