POLICE AND TOURISTSThe mythical American tourist, “How wonderful your policemen are.” That line or one similar was common in British “B” movies and T.V. in an era long before colour invaded that box in our sitting rooms. I doubt it is a line which will ever be scripted again.

Not satisfied with employing, as many others do, Police Community Support Officers as a cheap way to provide poorly educated poorly paid uniforms on the high street Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner is planning to “employ” volunteer PCSOs. He might be better off doing as Essex Constabulary has done in the past and set up cardboard cut outs of uniformed police constables on the high streets.

On the other hand the Met Chief wants to parachute high flyers (pun intended) into senior police positions. I can just see the hard noses of the Met or any other police force kowtowing gracefully to a highly educated suit from business or industry instructing them on the best way to clear the looters from that mythical high street where the cardboard police officers have had their arses and everything else burned to a cinder.
